History
The Hockey Section is one of the largest Sporting Sections at
the KCC with eight adult teams, three youth teams and five mini-hockey
teams. Hockey has been played since the earliest days of the club,
with the first recorded match on 27th June 1908 against USRC.
However an effort to include a representative from the Hockey
Section on the General Committee was defeated and this leads to
a decline in interest in the sport. It was not for another 50
years that the idea of forming a KCC Hockey Section materialised
during the 1957-58 season.
Teams
Hockey historically has been one of KCC's strongest and social
sports and these traditions continue today where KCC field five
men's teams and three women's teams in the domestic league competitions.
We also have vibrant mini-hockey set-up that competes successfully
in the Hong Kong mini-hockey tournament circuit; and a boy's teams
who compete in the youth league and who form the basis of the
future senior teams. We are proud that all our teams, like KCC,
is cosmopolitan coming from a variety of nations, such as India,
Pakistan, UK, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, Europe and even
South America, with no one country dominating.
Playing
The season starts from early October to May, avoiding the excess
heat and humidity of the summer. Women's games tend to be played
on Saturday afternoon with some weekday evening games, most KCC
games are played in Kowloon either at Kings Park, Club-de-Recreio,
Boundary Street and Lok Fu. The Men's section play nearly all
of their games on Sunday morning or afternoon with most games
being played in Kowloon - most of our home games (except for the
A team) are played on the grass pitch of the KCC. Some KCC games
are played on Hong Kong Island on such pitches as Happy Valley,
HKFC and HKU at Sandy Bay, Pokfulum.
Training
Women's and men's training are generally on Wednesday nights from
6:30 to 9:00 at the KCC or at Kings Park Hockey ground - please
check the Hockey Website for the latest training timetable. Youth
(10 to 16 year olds) train from 5:00 - 6:30pm on Wednesdays at
KCC; and 6 to 12 year old train on Sunday morning from 9:30 -
11:00am in the KCC indoor hall.
Coaching
KCC have a team of coaches that provide coaching at all levels
for KCC players, either adult, youth or mini. We also work with
schools, generally in Kowloon, to provide coaching to students
to supplement the sport classes. If you would like to know more
know details for either yourself or for your school, then please
see the schedule or contact our Youth Coordinator or Head Coach.
Mini-hockey
We have a growing Mini-hockey section of about 50 kids with team
for under 8 (years old) (U8), under 10 (U10) and under 12 (U12).
Min-hockey is open to guests, as well as members. The min-hockey
kids train every Sunday morning at KCC with a group of experienced
coaches and play in HKHA tournaments every month during the season.
The finally is the KCC mini-hockey tournament in March where 300
kids participate in the KCC mini-Hockey tournament at the KCC.
Youth
For kids between 10 - 16 years old we have youth teams for the
girls and boys and participate in the HKHA league (Boys 2004/
2005 Champions). These form the nucleus of the adult league in
the future and have great support from the section and coaches.
Kids train on Wednesday afternoon / evening at KCC or Kings Park.
Social Games
As well as HKHA winter competitions we compete in overseas tours,
Bangkok's King's Cup being the most popular; and local events
such as the HKFC 9's and the 'Summer League'. Internally we have
the very popular Boxing Day hockey for kids and adults to help
sweat out the accesses of Christmas; the End of Season mixed tournament
followed by BBQ in late May; and 'turn-up and play' social session
during the summer (refer to Hockey website for schedule).
We also take opportunities to play touring teams,
recently we have played Tokyo University, Shanghai Hockey Club
and Hawthornes from Australia. Additionally we regularly play
interport games with RSBC Bangkok and Macau.

Annual Mixed Hockey Tournament
2004 was the KCC Centenary year and as part of the celebrations
the Hockey section held a fabulous mixed 9-a-side hockey tournament
over the October 22-24 2004 weekend. 24 local and international
teams competed for the Centenary Cup, Plate and Bowl; the winners
were Shaheen, Elite / Owls (shared) and Aquilla respectively.
The highlight was a dinner dance with a record number of guests
with a host of raffle prizes.
Due to this success we will restart our previous Charlie Stevens/Alan van der Sluis mixed tournament to compete for a Cup, Plate and Bowl again annually, starting this year. The week of the October 8th and 9th 2005 has been booked for this year's tournament with a dinner dance on the Saturday night; and drinks and snacks on the Sunday night. There is limit of 24 teams, if your team would like to participate or if you have any enquiries please contact hockey@kcc.org.hk.
