After the success of the February “Tin N’ Bottle” Mixed Doubles Tournament, practice sessions on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons have taken on new meaning for some! Players are seen huddled in the corner of the Sports Hall discussing tactics and even the ‘A’ word before their next ‘friendly’ match. Further “Tin N’ Bottle” Ladies’ Doubles and Men’s Doubles Tournaments are planned for Friday, 7 April and Saturday, 8 April. So if you fancy putting your ‘A’ttitude to the test, then there is just time to sign up on the notice board, to join the band of players already paired-up.

For those who are not sure what all the excitement is about, feel free to come and have a look. Practice sessions are held in a convivial atmosphere and involve players of all ages and abilities from complete beginners to seasoned campaigners. It’s all about footwork, racket technique, shot selection, tactics etc... actually there is a lot to remember and you have only a millisecond to do it! The good news is that it’s never too late (or early) to pick up a racket and join in the fun. Coach Dominic and other senior members have been providing expert tuition and words of encouragement for only a few months, but already novices are beginning to play with new found abilities and more confidence. The more expert are refining their technique looking forward to the challenge of external tournaments in the coming months. For others it is just nice to know that you are a better player and have made some friends along the way.

The Society would like to thank Kings for his help and continued support in arranging the tournaments and practice sessions and also Robert Blythe for personally donating the “Tin N’ Bottle Trophy”, which showed outstanding originality and was a worthy prize for our first tournament. Well done Kings and Robert!

April workshops are scheduled for 1 April, 22 April and 29 April. Check the notice board for the latest details.
